What is Vaniqa?
Vaniqa interferes with a chemical in hair follicles of the skin. This results in reduced hair growth in the area where Vaniqa is applied. The Vaniqa is used to remove facial hair unwanted by women. The Vaniqa does not permanently remove hair or “cure” unwanted facial hair. The Vaniqa helps to control their condition and improve your appearance.
What is the most important information I should know about Vaniqa?
The Vaniqa is for external use only. The generic name of Vaniqa is eflornithine topical.
Continue to use Vaniqa even if you do not see immediate results. The reduction of facial hair occurs gradually. You can see an improvement as soon as 4 to 8 weeks of treatment, however, may take longer in some individuals. If you do not see any improvement after 6 months of use, you must discontinue treatment with Vaniqa. Hair growth may return to previous levels at baseline, 8 weeks after discontinuation of treatment with Vaniqa.
Who should not use Vaniqa?
Do not use Vaniqa if you have had an allergic reaction in the past. The Vaniqa is in the category C under the heading of the FDA Pregnancy. This means that it is not known whether Vaniqa will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether Vaniqapasses into breast milk. Do not take Vaniqa medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding. The Vaniqais not approved for use in children under 12 years of age.
How should I use Vaniqa?
Apply Vaniqa exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse or doctor to explain them to you.

The Vaniqa is usually applied twice daily, with a minimum of eight hours apart or as directed by your doctor.
Wash hands before and after each application of Vaniqa.
Remove any facial hair that is present using your current hair removal techniques. Wait at least 5 minutes after hair removal before applying Vaniqa. Apply a thin layer of Vaniqa to the affected areas of the face near the affected areas under the chin and rubbing it completely.
You can use cosmetics or sunscreen after applying Vaniqa, but you should wait a few minutes to the treatment to be absorbed before the application.
Do not wash treated area for at least 4 hours after applying Vaniqa. Avoid applying Vaniqa in the eyes, nose or mouth. If this occurs, wash the area with water. If Vaniqa gets in your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and call your doctor.
The Vaniqamay cause redness, rash, burning, itching or tingling, especially if applied to broken or irritated skin. If irritation occurs, reduce the application of Vaniqa to once a day. If irritation persists, stop using Vaniqa and call your doctor.

What happens if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of Vaniqa, do not apply the missed dose and apply the next regularly scheduled dose as directed. Do not apply a double dose of this medication or try to “replace” a missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
It is unlikely that an overdose of Vaniqa. If swallowed the cream, or if you suspect an overdose, call your scholar, emergency room or poison control center for advice.
What should I avoid while using Vaniqa?
Avoid applying Vaniqa in the eyes, nose or mouth. If this occurs, wash the area with water. If Vaniqa gets in your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and call your doctor.
What are the possible side effects of Vaniqa?

Inflammation can also occur in hair follicles (folliculitis). If this continues, contact your doctor.

What other drugs can have adverse effects with Vaniqa?
Before using Vaniqa, talk to your doctor and tell if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medications, especially if you are using any topical prescription. It may not be able to use Vaniqa or you may require a lower dose or special monitoring during treatment.
